The event will see delegates from over 20 countries coming together to share insights and celebrate the art of winemaking.

We’re excited to announce that the South African Sommeliers Association (SASA) is set to host the first Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI) General Assembly to be held on African soil, from 23-28 March.

At this prestigious event, Cape Town and Stellenbosch will welcome delegates from over 20 countries. In addition to strategic meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions, delegates will enjoy tastings, vineyard visits, and experiences that showcase the very best of the Western Cape.

"This is the big one!I cannot wait for this year to get started. We have some massive milestones set to be achieved this year at both a local and international level. it is lining up to be an incredible year for us”

Spencer Fondaumiere, SASA Chairman

ASI was founded over 55 years ago as a group bringing together restaurant service professionals to help raise industry standards worldwide. Although it began in Europe, ASI now has a presence on six continents.

As well as uniting wine professionals from around the world to support ASI’s core mission of learning, the General Assembly will also lay the groundwork for the inaugural ASI Best Sommelier of Africa and the Middle East competition, scheduled to be held in South Africa in 2027. It will further aim to celebrate and develop sommelier talent across the region.

Keep an eye on SASA’s social media channels during the event for updates.
