South African Sommeliers Association (SASA) Launches Johannesburg Chapter


Johannesburg, South Africa - July 18, 2023 - The South African Sommeliers Association (SASA) is thrilled to announce the launch of its Johannesburg chapter, expanding its reach to the vibrant wine community in the city. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the mission of SASA to promote excellence in wine service and education throughout South Africa.


Under the leadership of the Tawanda Marume (Expression Wines South Africa), with help from Xolani Mancotywa (Chenin Noir South Africa | Hospitality and FMCG consultants), the Johannesburg chapter is poised to elevate the local wine culture, foster professional growth, and enhance the overall experience for wine enthusiasts in the region. This new chapter will provide a platform for sommeliers, wine professionals, and enthusiasts to connect, collaborate, and deepen their knowledge of the world of wine.


Spencer Fondaumiere, Chairman of SASA, expressed his excitement about the launch, stating, "The establishment of the Johannesburg chapter is a testament to the growing passion for wine and the dedication of sommeliers in South Africa. We are delighted to bring SASA's expertise and resources to Johannesburg, allowing us to further cultivate the art of wine service in this thriving city."


Heading the Johannesburg chapter is Tawanda Marume, an esteemed sommelier with extensive experience in the industry. Marume is committed to nurturing a vibrant wine community and driving professional development opportunities for sommeliers and wine enthusiasts in Johannesburg. Speaking about the launch, Marume commented, "I am honored to lead SASA's Johannesburg chapter and excited about the possibilities it holds. We aim to create a platform that fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the celebration of South African wines."


The SASA Johannesburg chapter will organize a series of engaging events, including tastings, workshops, and seminars, providing valuable insights into various wine regions, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques.
